In Bhagavad Gita chapter 2
verse 23 Lord Krishna again lays emphasis on the sublime soul atman, the spirit within! As per Krishna... our
soul atman, the spirit within always remains unaffected by workings of physical manifest
world.
As souls' atmans were eternal, indestructible... they could neither be destroyed by weapons
nor burnt by fire. Water cannot rot it and it could not be withered by air. With the death of physical body... the
identity of a soul atman, the spirit within remained intact!
The Explanation:

Through Bhagavad Gita chapter 2 verse 23 Krishna makes it clear to Arjuna that with death
of mortal body... our soul atman, the spirit within remained unaffected! As per Krishna... reincarnation,
rebirth was part of cosmic life. Continuity was an attribute of cosmic system. After death of present body...
our soul atman, the spirit within kept manifesting body after body, manifestation after
manifestation!
Our soul atman, our true inner self was the nature of spirit. It could never be
destroyed or killed by any means possible. Even God Almighty could not destroy a soul atman. All souls’ atmans
existed from times immemorial. As souls' atmans could not cleanse self of dross impurities within... they need
manifesting a body to work out its karma. From time of big bang to dissolution of cosmos (Pralaya in Hinduism)...
all souls atmans keep manifesting form after another until they reached cosmic end of life... 8.4 millionth
manifestation!
In bhagavad gita chapter 2 verse 23 Krishna wants to emphasize on Arjuna that he
was primarily a spirit... a soul atman and not a manifest physical human form. By killing people for sake of
re-establishing Dharma (righteousness), Arjuna would not be committing any sin. Death was inevitable. As our body
was perishable, based on complex process of karma... the journey of life would come to an end now or later. Why
grieve over death of body, the physical manifest self!
Spiritual allegory summarizes Bhagavad Gita chapter 2 verse 23 as
follows:
As we were a soul atman and not the manifest physical human form... it becomes our
duty to assist our soul atman in reaching cosmic end of life. By removing veil of ignorance we could realize this
abstract truth of life. We as a soul atman manifest a maximum of 1.1 million manifestations in human form to reach
stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana). Undertaking spiritual journey was the ultimate goal of life for every
human being on mother earth.
When we were a spirit... why indulge in affairs of physical manifest life. After
death of body... nothing physical transferred to next manifestation! It was only residual balance of karma that
carried forward. As a soul atman it is in our interest to indulge in good karma, positive karma all the time to
reach god in present life. Reaching god in present life simply means, we as a soul atman gaining absolute purity
forever. Karma negating to zero... one finally becomes an enlightened one! The prime purpose of all scriptures
always remains human beings gaining enlightenment in their lifetime. But how many people seriously undertook
spiritual journey?
When we as a soul atman could never be destroyed! This simply means our journey of
life as a soul atman was one single span of life totaling 8.4 million manifestations on the whole. Belief or no
belief... reincarnation, rebirth was part of cosmic life! Death of human life announces soul atman within
manifesting another life form based on residual balance of karma at the time of death. Even as a soul atman... we
could never scuttle circle of life from birth to death. As a human being we had to undergo all rigors of spiritual
pursuit. After death of present body... we as a soul atman would again manifest a new body. Why fear death at any
stage of life?
